TM has confirmed that the players that played the final half an hour are likely to start in tonight’s game against York. Everyone that started the game against Sparta Prague played at least an hour’s football, before being replaced. Only Lenihan and Bennett played the full 90, so it’s unlikely we will see them feature much or at all tonight, as Mowbray looks to give everyone minutes in these early games.
Therefore, I like preseason, letting the young players get a chance to play in the first team. I always have an eye on what players are looking good in the academy, trying to get to as many games as possible. At the moment, I think we have a pack of players looking like they could make a push for a place.
Let’s run through who might start;
Goalkeeper – Steele was rested for the game in Austria, presumably as a caution. Hopefully, Fisher will get to start.
Defence – Caddis, Ward, Wharton, Doyle. Unless Mowbray has made the decision not to sign Caddis, he will start tonight. Ward will play after missing the Prague, he will line up next to Wharton.
Midfield – Feeney, Tomlinson, Evans, Conway. It’s still unsure what formation he wants to play, so I will go 4 in midfield. The question is will he play Conway or try some else, we have no other senior winger, with Bennett playing the full 90 against Prague.
Upfront – Rankin-Costello, Graham – I am not sure on this, I would love to see these 2 up front together. Otherwise, it will be Dack or Gladwin behind Graham.
Obviously, this is mostly guess work, but from Mowbray’s comments and the squad available, I don’t think I’ll be far off here. Everything depends on the formation.
